FIRST COMMUNION

Our outreach to our Spanish speaking neighbors has already begun.

Families in our school have asked about confirmation and First
Communion class.  But those of us of a Lutheran tradition  may ask,
"What is first communion?"

As Lutherans, first communion and confirmation are part of the same
ceremony.  Most of us, after we were confirmed, also had communion
for the first time.  In the past few years, we here at St Paul have
allowed our children going through confirmation class to commune
after the first year of studies.  First Communion is basically the same
thing.

However, it is a six-week course in which the students learn the six
chief parts of Luther's Small Catechism, with an emphasis on how they
relate to communion.
First Communion is very important in the Hispanic culture.  When the
children receive their first communion, they will dress in white.  This
symbolized that they have been made pure by the body and blood of
Jesus.

First Communion class will play a key role in our outreach to our
Spanish speaking neighbors.  See our first "First Communion" class
