Lent One of the images of Jesus that we use in the Liturgy is the Lamb. Before we approach the altar for the Lord’s Supper, we sing the Agnus Dei, Latin for Lamb of God. This Lent we are going to focus on different lambs in the Old Testament and how these lambs prepared the people for the ministry and the sacrifice of Jesus. Lambs played an important role in the religious life and the promises of God. As Abraham reassured Isaac, God would provide the Lamb. As the blood of the lamb on the doorposts, the Israelites were delivered from death. As the sacrificed lamb, God announced that their sins were forgiven and a number of other blessings. The servant of God would lay down his life as a lamb for God’s people. Each of these images of the lamb was fulfilled by the life and ministry of Jesus.
